maid of honor emergency kit

Being a Maid of Honor is not just a privilege. Yes, you are the best friend. Hmmm, are you really? Just kidding! Of course you are. You’re the most trusted friend/sister/daughter/cousin of the bride. It’s an honor to be one. But as they say,  “With great honor, comes great responsibility”. Or is that power? Anyway, as a Maid of Honor, you’re always beside  the bride, assisting her with her dress, fixing her veil, making sure the train of her dress is spread out really nicely for the pictures, and attending to her immediate needs. You’re also there to fix her hair quickly, if it got a little messy, check her makeup, and most importantly. to calm her nerves. Well, basically what you already do as a best friend, right?

I was a Maid of Honor when my mom got married to my stepdad a while back, and I must say, I wasn’t a big help because I didn’t know what I was supposed to do at that time. I thought I was just an automatic choice for my mom, since I’m the only daughter. If I knew then what I know now, I would've offered her more assistance at  that time. Well, I got another chance to be a Maid of Honor to one of my bestfriends, and I was able to do everything I can to be a good one at that time.

I think the best thing you can do as a Maid of Honor, besides helping the bride with anything she needs, is to have an emergency kit. I’m not talking about a first aid kit or something like that, although you’ll need some items that you will normally find in a first aid kit. I am talking about little items that can be a big help in case of emergency, hence the name Emergency kit. LOL

So what  should be inside a Maid of Honor Emergency kit:

  • Tylenol - yes, sometimes the bride suddenly develops a headache due to all the stress that built up leading to the wedding day. This is not only for the bride though, it’s for the whole wedding party. Maybe some groomsmen or the groom himself had a few drinks the night before, and are a little hungover? Just a little. LOL.

  • Facial blotter - that small piece of paper you use to wipe off oil on your face. You will definitely need that, especially if the wedding is outdoors, and in the summer time. You need that to keep the bride’s facial oil in check.

  • Small mirror - not the mirror from your phone, but a real compact mirror, for the bride to check her lipstick, or her eyeliner, or what ever else she wants to see on her face.

  • Small Handkerchief - for the bride’s tears. Or yours? I know I badly needed one when my best friend got married. I was a BIG MESS. Go to your local antique or vintage stores, if you’re lucky, you’ll find really nice white vintage handkerchiefs, you know the one with the embroideries, it would be perfect for the wedding day. Also would be a nice little remembrance gift to the bride.

  • Lip gloss - just for a quick Lipper-upper. Is that a word? Anyway, to touch up the lips after eating, or drinking water or cocktails.

  • Band aids - in case the bride’s feet (or even the bridesmaid’s feet) get blisters from wearing her new/used/borrowed bridal shoes. I’m telling you, it happens, what with all the walking during the whole day. Sometimes, the pictorials that happen after the ceremony is at a different location, where you have to do a lot of walking. Be prepared.

  • A few hair pins - to keep the bride’s hair intact in case it gets a little messy from the wind, especially if it’s outdoors.

  • Eye drops - sometimes, depending on the weather, your eyes get really dry and itchy. It helps to have something to remedy that, so you’re not uncomfortable the whole day. It’ll show in the picture, I promise you.

  • Facial mist - just a a really small bottle to freshen up the bride’s face, when her make up gets flaky, or dry.

  • Mints- the bride will be greeting everyone, make sure her breath smells nice. She may not be a bridezilla, but her breath might be. HAHAHA.

Lastly, and the most important one, TIDE To GO pen. We all know the Tide magic eraser sponge that we use for the walls, and other surfaces that makes all the stains and marks disappear, right? For some reason  I still don’t know how it works, but it does! (I refuse to accept any explanation other than it being really made of stardust magic) So the pen works the same. It is very convenient, not only for the bride, but for every one in the wedding party. You never know who’s going to spill some wine, or alcohol or even food, on their dresses or suits. The bride especially needs that in case somebody steps on her veil or dress and it leaves a mark. You can easily erase it and make it disappear for the pictures.

So there you have it. If you can think of more, just bring it, but in very small amounts so that everything will fit your cute little purse or whatever you’re carrying with you all the time during the wedding.
