how to save on prenup photos

What are prenup photos? These are photos taken months, or even just days before the wedding. They are usually taken by a professional photographer, at a nice location. These are done with just the bride and groom-to-be, and just them doing different, loving poses. Sometimes the photoshoots are done before the invitations are sent out, and the couple uses one of the photos from that photoshoot for the Save the dates or invitations.

Prenup photoshoots are expensive, usually ranging around the area of $2,000s and above, depending on the package. Sometimes the wedding photographers are also the ones doing the prenup photos, and it comes as a package deal with the wedding photos. Yes, they can be really pricey, but like what I’ve mentioned in my other post about finding a good wedding venue (Read HERE.), it is worth it because these professional photographers really know what they’re doing, and they know how to capture amazing pictures. BUT, not all of us can afford to pay for something like that.

13 years ago, like I’ve mentioned so many times in this blog, my husband and I didn’t have a big budget for our wedding, let alone, have an extra money for a professional photographer. But we still had a prenup shoot. It was 2 of my best friends who helped us. They had Canon DSLR cameras. So we went to a location, and did the photoshoot there. It turned out amazing!! We were so lucky to have friends like that who always step in to help.

If you don’t have enough budget for a prenup photoshoot, you can certainly try and do it yourself like we did. Here are some things you can do:

  1. First of all, if you don’t have a camera, (not necessarily a professional DSLR camera, but any type of good camera), try to borrow from one of your friends, or relatives. If nobody has one, you can use your phone. The iPhone 13 Pro max has a really good quality camera. I bet you can take amazing photos with it. Well, still not exactly the same quality as a DSLR camera, but you can make it work. There are so many tutorials/tips online on how to take amazing photos, and tricks you can do to create a great looking shot. Again, not the same quality as a good camera, but it could work.

  2. Ask any of your friends or relative help you with the photoshoot. IF nobody is available, you can buy a tripod and really do it yourselves. The only issue with that is, it’s hard to get really nice shots right away, because you can’t really see what you’re getting before you take a picture. You have to take picture first, look at them, and then, decide if you want to change the pose, or style or lighting.

  3. Once you have the camera, and the person who’s going to help you with the photoshoot, it’s time to think of a theme. What is the theme you are going for? Do you even want to do a theme, or just take regular pictures together for a more natural effect? I’ve seen some that had themes like Bridgerton, Jane Austen novels, Fifty Shades of Grey, etc. It’s up to you and your fiancé what you want to do for you photoshoot.

For my prenup photos, there was no theme. We just dressed the way we normally dress, went to the location, and did the photos there. My other friend did the exact same thing, they just went to the location and shot the pictures there.

  4. This is important because this will give the overall feel of the photoshoot. Find the perfect location. This doesn’t have to be complicated. You don’t have to travel far to the mountains, or the beach to have really nice photos. It can be anywhere, depending on what you, as a couple, enjoy doing. If you are both outdoorsy, definitely go somewhere outdoor, like your favorite hiking area, or the place where you always for outdoor adventures. If you enjoy watching movies, maybe do it inside a cinema or something like that. If you just like hanging out, watching Netflix and chilling, then maybe you can do it at home. If you like camping, or driving somewhere, you can maybe do a photoshoot in your favorite vehicle or pretend that you’re camping. The possibilities are endless. You can always be creative with your locations. Just choose a location that resonates to the two of you.

  5. After you do the photoshoot, and you’ve edited the photos to make it look nicer, you can choose a few of the best ones and have those photos enlarged. These are the photos that you can display at your home, or anywhere you want. For the rest of great pictures, you can definitely make your own professional looking photobook. I always use Photobook Canada to do my photobooks, because it so user-friendly and they have so many options and promotions. For your prenup photos you can’t definitely choose a Hardcover album to make it look better and last longer.
