will these WEDDING TRENDS stay in 2023?

Here we are again, it’s almost the end of the year. Wow 2022 flew by, right? That’s why there’s been a lot of memes about how 2023 is coming, but we’re all still processing 2019, because it didn’t feel like we went thru it. I guess maybe because the past 2 years of pandemic and staying inside, it made time go by so slow that when everything opened in 2023, and all the cancelled events finally pushed thru, it felt like a flash.

So let’s talk about some trends that’s been happening in the past years and talk about whether they will stay in 2023 or not, because really that’s why they are called trends, because trends come and go. Well, some actually evolve into something else. One of the trends that are slowly going away, thank goodness, is the releasing of balloons, or balloon lanterns. You know what I’m talking about, right? Its; where they put wishes on lighted lanterns and they let them fly above the sky. I hate the balloons simply because it’s a waste of money, and not good for the environment. Yes, it looks good on the pictures, but that’s it. No other purpose for it.

Anyway, here we go:

  • Photobooths - photobooths had been a staple at weddings for the past 10 years or so, it started with people renting those legit photobooths, like that ones you see at the mall where you go inside with your friends. But nowadays, with technology, people are doing it themselves with the “DIY photobooths”. You just do a really beautiful backdrop, whether it’s wood pallet, flower wall, curtains with fairy lights, etc. , and then use a really good quality camera with timer, and that’s your “photobooth”. Personally I don’t like it, especially with the use of the those tacky props like wigs and glasses and stuff. It’s actually on my list of Unnecessary expenses. (Read HERE.) Now, will this stay in 2023? I really think so. Just because it’s so easy to set up and people like getting their pictures taken. It’s also one of those things that give wedding guests something to do at weddings, when there’s some break of after dinner etc. So yes, I think it will stay, maybe it will evolve into something else or the props would level up, I don’t know. We’ll see.

  • First look - this is where the groom gets the first look at the bride before anyone else, and this is done for them to have a special moment away from everyone else. I really think this is a sweet thing to do because the couple get to have a sincere moment, you know without the bride thinking about the guests, or the groom stopping himself from crying. I think this trend is going to stay because it provides a really good memory for the couple, as well as really authentic pictures. The trend that I don’t think will stay is the one where the groomsmen prank the groom, and instead of the wife being there, it’s actually one of his guy friends, wearing the gown. I mean, the first time I saw a video like that, I laughed so hard, it was hilarious. But then, once it became a trend, a lot of people have done it. The reason why I think it won’t stay is because it’s so expected now, and the groom somehow expects something like already ,that it no longer gets an authentic surprised reaction from the groom. It got old right away.

  • Different shaped arches - arches used to be just one shape. It’s usually the half concaved shape. Over the past 2 years or so, I’ve seen so many different shaped arches, circle, triangle, octagon, all sorts of geometric shapes. I think this trend will go away in 2023, just because I think goes with those geometric wall décor trends that is slowly going away also. I think the traditional arch shape make a comeback. Personally, I prefer the traditional shape because it’s classic and simple.

  • Plant bouquet - whether it be just plain pampas, or pampas with eucalyptus leaves or just foliage, I think it won’t stay for longer. One of the main reason why this became a trend was because the Boho style made a comeback a couple of years ago, and everybody went crazy with pampas grass? Started with the just home décor, and it elevated to wedding bouquets. Another thing that made it popular was the cost. It cost a fraction of what you would normally pay for a flower bouquet. But I think now that everything’s open, and people are working, and are saving more money, that more brides will be able to afford a beautiful flower bouquet. Besides, the pampas grass doesn’t really look good on e pictures, right?

  • Donut wall - this list is turning out to be an exact copy of of my unnecessary expenses! LOL. But honestly I never liked this trend. The donuts are exposed to dirt and they become stale. However, I think they’re staying until 2023, because it’s cheap and gives the guests a little bit of extra snack while waiting, it saves money on cocktail food, or desserts. I do think though, that the wall will evolve into something else. Maybe it be stacked like a cake, or done in a different way that hanging off a wall like a clothing.

There you have it. These are just a few of the trends that’s came up in the past few years. There’s so much more out there. Well, a new trend comes up every year with weddings, and it’s nice to try something new, but with social media and Tiktok, the trend quickly becomes viral and then everybody starts doing it, and then what happens is that, it gets old very quickly. That’s why I always choose the classic or traditional ones when it comes to weddings, because it’s safe and won’t go out of style, no matter if you look at the picture 10, or 20 years from the day you got married. But hey, it’s your wedding, so it’s your choice. Just enjoy.
