WEDDING TO GO

Imagine going on a drive through window saying “ I’d like an order of 1 marriage pls”, and the person on the other end will say “Ok, would that be with a priest or an officiant?” Sounds laughable, but it’s actually a real thing. And it is happening here in Canada, in the Town of Erin, in Ontario.

They said that it’s one way to promote tourism, and provide a way for couples to have a unique wedding.

This is what their mayor, Mayor Allan Alls, said in an interview with the local news:

"It is the Town's strategic priority to be innovative in providing service excellence and facilitating partnerships within the community to promote tourism and economic development. Last year Council passed a resolution to offer marriage solemnization services by the Town, and we are taking it a little further with this unique and fun opportunity for those who are ready to tie the knot.”

From what I read, all you need to bring is a marriage license, and you just have to pay $250.00 for the ceremony. The other bonus from this, is that every couple will receive a gift from donors.

Isn’t it really just a unique way of getting married? I mean, it’s definitely not for everyone, but after the pandemic that left a lot of couples tired from rescheduling, and stressing about whether their wedding is going to push through or not, this is one way of “getting it over with”, right? It’s like going somewhere to elope, but if you live in Ontario, it may be way closer, and cheaper than flying all the way to Vegas.

Benefits of having a drive through wedding:

  1. Convenient - you just have to grab a marriage license, and drive over there to get married. That’s it. No drama, no waiting, well, maybe a little bit if there are lot of other couples waiting in line, but not a long wait compared to what happened during and after the pandemic.

  2. Cheaper - like I said, way cheaper than eloping in Las Vegas or somewhere farther. That is if you live close to where it is happening. Not only that, but you don’t have to worry about other expenses that come with having a big wedding. You don’t even have to buy a wedding dress if you don’t want to. You can wear anything you want whether it’s white or not. The reception is optional.

  3. Fast - whether you’re tired of waiting to reschedule your upcoming wedding, or you just had that spur of the moment idea to get married, this type of wedding ceremony is perfect, because it’s fast and easy once you have your marriage license. No need to go through a whole lot of other stuff, you just come and go, like grabbing food.

  4. Peace of mind - I know you’re wondering what the heck do I mean by peace of mind, when in reality it might be more nerve wracking because it’s like you’re rushing into something. What I meant is that you have that feeling of ease. That nothing is going to go wrong, because it’s such a short ceremony. Unlike when you have a wedding ceremony at a venue. When you have a ceremony like that, whether it’s a small intimate event, or big one, so many things are gonna go through your mind, that may take away from the most important thing, which is you, marrying the love of your life. Right? This way, you can focus on just getting married and getting it over with.

Like I said it’s not for everyone. Other couples will still want a traditional one. Personally, if I wasn’t married yet, I wouldn’t consider doing a drive though wedding, but that is just because of my family. Asian families? Oh my gosh, I can’t even imagine the talks behind our back if we ever do that or even suggest that. They won’t be able to stop us if we really wanted to do something like that, but we’ll have to go through a lot of arguments and hurtful words. LOL.

Anyway, another option for you, if you really want to include your whole family in the celebration of your love, is to have a reception after. Book a venue for the reception after the drive through wedding. It’ll be nice to just have each other for the wedding, and then once it’s done and you’re officially married, you can go to the reception, and just party with your loved ones. I think it’s a wonderful idea.

Now, this drive through wedding ceremony is not a big thing at the moment, but it’s happening. Who knows? There might one in your area in the future.
