outdoor weddings

I’ve attended a wedding ceremony very recently, and it was held on the mountainside. Very beautiful all around. You have the rocky mountains on one side, and greenery on the other. But the memory that really stuck with me were the mosquitoes. We were eaten alive. They were so hungry for blood that they don’t care if they were poisoned by the bug spray we put on our skin, or died from our hands slapping them. I guess they’d rather die full, than be safe and starving.

ADVICE: HAVE AN OUTDOOR WINTER (unless you live in a place with very cold winters, I am looking at you Alberta!) OR  FALL WEDDING. Either one will give you AMAZING photos. Summer is too hot with mosquitoes, and Spring brings the allergies out. I love blooming flowers but the pollens are my poison.

Things to consider if you are planning an outdoor wedding ceremony:

  1. Location - Is it accessible to everyone? Are there no hazards to children (if there are children attending) and people with disabilities? Do you have to rent chairs or are there going to be benches?

  2. Season - very important, especially if you live in an area with 4 seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. Every season has it’s cons. Summer comes with mosquitoes and heat that can be very uncomfortable for some. Spring comes with a lot of pollens and flying dandelions that trigger the allergies of certain people ( I am the people!) Fall needs to be timed perfectly otherwise, most pictures will have dead trees all around. Best would be around the beginning of Fall, where all the leaves are still there but are just starting to change to their fall colors. Winter, again depending on where you live, make sure it’s an acceptable temperature to be outside. Otherwise everyone will look like Jack Nicholson at the end of The Shining.

  3. Time - Is it too early for everyone? Does everyone have enough time to get ready without rushing? If it’s at night time, are you allowed to bring lanterns, is there a place to plug in lights? Do you have to rent poles for lighting?

Wedding ceremony surrounded by mountains

12 years ago I was thinking it would be nice to have ceremony outdoors, but have like a barbeque party dinner with everyone after. That’s when I started looking for acreages for rent. I did find some acreages not too far from the city where I live. They offer rentals for a minimum of 2 nights.

My idea was to rent out the whole acreage (it comes with a big house where everyone can sleep) for 3 nights. that’ll give everyone plenty of time to get ready, have fun, relax and enjoy each other’s company.

If you’re into that type of vibe, definitely check out acreages for rent. It’s a good wedding venue, because there’s a vast amount land around to hold your ceremony, and then everyone can just chill after. And because you have the whole place to yourselves, there are so many options to decorate, and do anything you guys want.
