christmas wedding ideas
Some people like getting married close to Christmas Day, Dec 25th, because it’s festive, and everyone is on a holiday spirit. I think the only drawback to that is, a lot of people might be on holidays close to Christmas time, or some might be away visiting relatives and loved from another state or country.
If you are thinking of having a wedding close to Christmas, make sure it is at least 2 weeks before Christmas, so that people won’t have to worry about rescheduling or moving their vacation or holiday trip dates, just so they can attend your wedding.
First thing you need to do, and I don’t really like doing this at weddings because it’s on my list of Unecessary expenses, is to send out Save the Date cards. This is an exemption for me, just because it’s close to Christmas time, and you’d really want to give people a heads up, in case they’re planning on going away for the holidays.
Here are some ideas for you:
If you want it to be Christmas colors, doesn’t mean it needs to be Red and green, it can be blue and silver or white to symbolize a white Christmas.
A red and green color scheme might be strong and busy for the eye but with good blending and color coordination it can be very romantic and beautiful.
Stick to red flowers, like roses or any other red colored florals, and keep the rest white, like the table cloth, napkins and everything else.
The color green can be incorporated by means of foliage, like ferns around the venue, or the centerpiece, for the tables.
The bridesmaids can either wear Green or red dresses, but pls avoid using the 2 colors. It’s either green or red, because realistically, there is no way to coordinate red and green in dress without making it look Christmassy.
For decorations, again you can use the green in the foliage, maybe use a red carpet for the entrance, or ribbons, but overall, red florals is the only way to use Red.
A blue and silver Christmas themed wedding is much easier to do because the colors coordinate very well.
Baby blue or Navy blue bridesmaid dresses photograph really well. The guys can wear a black suit, or if they’re willing, they can do a Silver or white suit.
There are so many options for blue lighting, you can use blue paper lanterns as well. It’s very cheap and look absolutely beautiful in a wedding venue.
For a White Christmas feel, you can purchase or rent those frosted, lighted branches, for added lighting in the venue.
You can decorate your wedding arch, if you have one, with florals or foliage decorated with silver ribbons and other things.
There are so many other ways to incorporate the Christmas theme in your wedding. For the cake, you can easily ask the cake decorator to make it in Christmas colors, or if you prefer you wedding cake whit, then you can have a second cake that’s all about Christmas.
You can also buy those gingerbread houses that you decorate, for the kids to do in a separate room to keep them busy while the adults are partying the night away.
Those gingerbread houses can also be used if you want o have a game in your reception. You can divide the participants into groups and each group must be able to decorate the gingerbread house, at a given time and whoever creates the best looking house wins.
You can put romantic Christmas songs in the dances. One of my favorite Christmas songs of all time, is the Christmas Song, or as we all know, “Chestnuts roasting by the open fire..” I think it’s a very good father-daughter dance, because it really embraces the memories of the bride growing up and spending Christmas with the dad.
For your giveaways or wedding favors, you can definitely bake cookies or cupcakes in Christmas theme. Or give away Pine tree seedlings.
Those are just some ideas you can use if you’re thinking about having your wedding close to Christmas. Again, as a reminder, make sure you schedule it at least 2 weeks away from Christmas, so that people can actually attend.
