5 useful wedding gifts

Let’s be real here, if you want to give something to the bride and groom that will 100% be useful to both of them, the best gift is still a monetary gift. Simply because with a monetary gift, no matter how big or small the amount is, it can be used to purchase whatever the bride and groom wants or needs. Or maybe, they can add it to their savings for their honeymoon or future home, if they don’t have one already. Monetary gift is the most popular choice of guests because it eliminates the need to think about what the bride and groom would want for themselves. It saves you, the guest, the effort of finding the prefect gift. Usually the bride and groom indicates their preference on the invitation, so you don’t have to worry about it.

But what if the bride and groom didn’t put anything on the invitation? What if it’s up to you? What can you buy that will really be useful to them? First of all, if you don’t know the couple well enough, it’s better to stick to a monetary gift because how would you even know what’s going to be useful to them if you don’t know them very well? What if they already have what you’re intending to give them?

I have a list of 5 items you can gift to them. These items are not very uncommon, a lot of people have gifted these to couples before, but I am putting them here because these are items that the bride and groom can buy for themselves, but they’re probably not going to, not after the wedding, and not at least in the next year.

Tickets- whether it be concert tickets for an artist they both love, or a show they’ve been dying to see, these will be very useful to them. Being newlyweds, they have so much stuff to do, at least in their minds, that they probably won’t even consider watching a show or a concert. They’d love to, but they won’t have the time to purchase or even think about it, but if you give it to them, they’d be somewhat obligated to watch, and I’m sure they’ll both have a good time. If they’re into theater, find out which plays are coming out in your local area, something that they’re both looking forward to see, and buy those tickets for them, preferably in a really good seat.

  • Gift of Adventure - this depends on what they enjoy as a couple. If they are the outdoorsy type, maybe find them a coupon for an outdoor adventure, like a Kayaking ride, or maybe a spelunking, or whale watching adventure. Something that you know will excite them. If they’re both a foodie, meaning they love trying out different types of food, maybe give them a unique dining experience or buy them coupons for a 5 star Michelin restaurant. I know it might be a little bit expensive, but if you can afford, then that’s a great gift. If they like to travel, you can give them hotel vouchers that they can use for their future travel. It’s not specific, but they can definitely use it anytime they want to travel.

  • Vintage/Antique tea cup set - I know, I know some of you might say this is just a gift for the bride, but hear me out. During the pandemic I’ve noticed a lot of my friends had visited antique stores, and other thrift stores more times than before the pandemic started, in the hopes of finding something nice and cheap. I think the thought was that a lot of people have given up some of their prized possessions during the pandemic to keep the money flowing, and that they’ll (my friends) find those amazing items at thrift stores. Anyway, my point is, most of my friends discovered a love for vintage tea cup sets and China. You don’t have to be an avid collector to appreciate the beauty of those vintage teapot and cups. You don’t even have to collect. You only need 1 set. I know it’s not just me, right? I mean, when you get married, having vintage teapot and cups are not the priority, right? You buy your basic plates and cups and everything you need for eating. You’re not gonna splurge on something antique or vintage. So that is why it is good to gift them to the bride and groom, so that they will own one. Trust me, it’ll be appreciated. Don’t buy new ones. Don’t buy fake ones. Find the real ones. Those gems are hiding in your vintage or antique store.

  • Tree - Pls don’t bring it to the wedding. LOL! I am not talking about a small plant in a pot. I am talking about a tree that they deliver to the house. The one that is ready to be planted in the backyard, if they have a backyard. If they live in a condo or somewhere that doesn’t have an outdoor space to plant the tree, get them an indoor/outdoor type. Something like the an Olive tree. The Olive tree has gotten really popular during the pandemic when everyone started bringing plants inside their homes. Like I said earlier about the vintage tea cup set, a tree is not something that a newlywed will prioritize on buying, so you can gift it to them. What’s nice about this gift is that, it’s going to be there for a long time, they will benefit from it for quite a while, whether by freshening the air in their home, or beautifying their backyard, it’ll be very useful to them. Also, a tree is not something that they’ll have to regularly take care of, so it’s not going to be a burden to them. Very low maintenance.

Another idea is the Christmas Tree, if they celebrate Christmas. But also if you know for sure that they prefer to have a live tree, instead of a fake plastic Christmas tree. In my local area, you can buy a small Christmas pine tree that they take care of during the whole year, and they deliver to you before Christmas. If you can find something like that in your local area, it will a wonderful present for their first Christmas together as a married couple.

Last, but not the least..

High end, top of the line beddings - yes, you read it right! For this to be special, you can’t just go to Winners and buy something branded, like those ones you often see: Nautica, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and some other famous brand like that. Just because it’s branded doesn’t mean it’s going to be very high quality. Really look for something high end. My coworker once worked at a luxury bedding company, and she told me that it’s not about the thread count, because even sheets with high thread count, sometimes feel like cheap satin. It’s all about the construction and material. Don’t go the store. Most of the high end, luxury beddings are found online, and can be monogrammed, for added oomph. One of the most popular website for luxury bedding that is affordable is Buffy. You can check it out here:

There you have it. That’s the list of 5 items you can gift to the bride and groom.

It’s not something that you just picked up at a store or somewhere, it’s something you really thought about. It’s a gift that will keep on giving.

It’s all about the memories these gifts will give to them.
