hall of lame?
To be honest, I didn’t consider renting a Community Hall for my venue, because I’ve been to so many hall parties that I just can’t see myself having any type of wedding reception there. Here are the pros and cons I had listed at that time:
CONS:
Too big - Halls typically have a capacity of 100 or more, so really out of the picture for my event.
Gym-like - I don’t know if it’s just me, but most of the halls I’ve seen are like school gymnasiums. Right? The ceiling’s too high, there’s laminate flooring, and bare walls. It feels cold and uninviting.
PROS:
Very cheap - the cost of renting a hall is a fraction of what you would pay at a hotel or restaurant.
You can bring your own food, whether home-cooked or by a caterer, again, saves you a ton of money.
You can bring your own alcohol - now this depends on the hall that you are renting, but in my experience, you usually just need to get a liquor license to bring alcohol. Imagine how much it’ll cost to have an open bar at a hotel. I’ve attended a party before where they set up DIY bar at the corner of the community hall, and there, you can mix your own drinks.
If you want to invite a whole lot of people but the budget is tight, renting a community hall is best option. There may be some gorgeous community halls around your area, you just have to do find it. Don’t settle for any hall you come across.
One of my friend’s daughter was going to turn 18 about 3 yrs ago, and we were looking at renting a hall for the party venue. With our joint effort, we were able to narrow it down to 2 choices: A rustic looking hall and a small dance Studio.
Dance studio
You might find some dance studios around your area that’s being rented out for private events. The one we looked at was in an old building, so there are brick walls around. So beautiful.
The Community Hall was our final choice because there was big staircase where her daughter was supposed to walk down from, for her big entrance, and the whole place was just amazing. I was surprised we’ve never been there before.

I think if you look really hard and take your time, you’ll eventually find a nice hall, like the one we discovered.
