backyard set up
If you are planning on having a backyard wedding, the layout or set up of the seating should be based on the size and shaped of the yard.
Small yards - if your yard is on the smaller side, typically for houses where the garage is detached and is located at the back of the yard, the best is to get circular tables. That way, there are no edges that the guests will bump into when they walk around. Circular tables will give the look of a nice flow around the area. You can distribute the tables around the yard and give enough space.
If you don’t have a lot of guests, you can do a couple of rectangular tables, parallel to each other
For a bohemian set up, get one big low table that everyone can seat around on. Don’t do more than 1 low table because it doesn’t look and feel intimate, it’s like 2 different parties.
Pie shaped - this is perfect for if you want the bride and groom to be in the center, and not seated with the guests. They can be placed at the edge of the yard and the other tables scattered in front of them. You can do this if the yard is not pie-shaped, as long it has enough space, then you can choose to have this type of set up.
Long and narrow - obviously, the only option for this yard is to have a long, rectangular table for eveyone on either side to seat on. This is actually my favorite, because 1. it is very intimate, 2. everyone can mingle with anyone. Nobody is left out in the conversation.
Again, this is your choice, and should be based on whatever is available for you to use. It helps if you draw it on a paper. Draw the outline of your yard, and try it with different types of table and layout to see which one you like best and choose from there.
